Pair found with explosives, arrested
Wednesday, 15 May 2013 11:51
HARARE - Police have arrested two people found in possession of explosives in Manicaland Province’s Chipinge area while a manhunt for three others who escaped has been launched.

National police spokesperson Charity Charamba said five people were travelling along Mount Selinda road in Chipinge when they were stopped by officers before a search was conducted leading to the discovery of the dangerous weapons.

According to police, the weapons were likely to be used for political reasons by “those bent on fermenting violence” as the country prepares for watershed polls.

“We confirm the arrest of two men found in possession of 12 explosive fuses measuring 20 centimetres long each; four fractured dynamites, four pairs of catapults and two iron bars on May 13, 2013,” said Charamba.

“We do not rule out the fact that the explosives could have been meant to further sinister political agendas. May those behind be strongly warned that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them,” Charamba said. - Xolisani Ncube
