HARARE - Two Chitungwiza residents are battling for life at a local hospital after being burnt at a church service for breaking a rule prohibiting speaking when the elder is on the pulpit, police confirmed.

Reddy Bvuka, 21, and Talent Manokoro, 14, of True Gospel Apostolic church received “Satanic justice” from the church elder Justice Nguni, 35, who felt “disrespected” and ordered the two to stand akimbo in front of a blazing inferno.

Acting Harare police spokesperson, Tarirai Dube, confirmed the matter saying Nguni and five other church leaders have since been arrested and investigations are underway.

“I can confirm that police are investigating that matter and the victims are currently hospitalised,” said Dube.

The police spokesperson said Bvuka and Manokoro were accused by Nguni and five others of disrespecting elders and received their punishment while other leaders surrounded them.

While in front of fire, the two became tired and fell on the raging fire resulting in Bvuka’s legs being burnt while Manokoro’s left leg was charred by the fire.

Police said Nguni is being charged with aggravated assault together with Courage Macheke, 24, Martin Mazvazvido, 43, Jessica Mushayavanhu, 40, Clifford Murota, 37, and Richard Rushaya, 16.
