HARARE - The Zimbabwe Forestry Commission (ZFC) has allegedly failed to pay its workers their February salaries.

The state workers say they have received payslips but no cash however.

Their parent ministry of Environment and Natural Resource Management has told them that payment has already been made but it is yet to reach their accounts.

The workers accuse management of playing mischief with their money.

They say they are yet to be paid the five percent increment awarded to civil servants, backdated to January this year.

ZFC general manager Darlington Duwa however, dismissed the workers claims saying the company is in good books with its employees.

“We are not in payments problems. With our subordinates of course they were supposed to receive their money last month but that does not mean we refused to pay them,” he said before hanging up the phone.

A workers’ representative Doubt Bhunu attributed delays in paying salaries to rampant corruption in the quasi-government department.

“I can tell you the company is failing to pay its workers not because they are bankrupt but the real issue is that some of my workmates are taking the money into their own pockets not taking into account the fact that for the company to exist it is all because of these workers” Bhunu said. - Staff Writer
