Police to transfer CSU employees case to Byo
Wednesday, 07 November 2012 10:13
HARARE - In a sudden twist of events Harare police yesterday advised lawyers representing three detained Counselling Services Unit (CSU) employees that the suspects would be taken to Bulawayo where the offence was allegedly committed.

Five CSU workers had been arrested following an afternoon raid that also saw the brief arrest of a Daily News staffer. Two staffers along with the journalist were later released without charge.

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), who have set up a defence team for the CSU workers, said no formal charges had been preferred against the three.

“Our lawyers are advising us that the CSU employees are most likely to spend their second night at Harare Central Police Station, with no charges having been preferred.

“From interaction with police in the past two days, the defence team have been made to understand that the police will be taking their employee to Bulawayo tomorrow morning where the police alleged that the offence was committed,” Kumbirai Mafunda, the ZLHR spokesperson.

Mafunda confirmed the release of Penn Bruno and James Zvidzino, while Fidelis Mudimu, Tafadzwa Gesa and Zacharia Godi remain in custody.

“The two were released yesterday without charge.  The information we have gathered is that police are alleging that a billboard and an information centre were defaced in Bulawayo so they have indicated that they will be taking them there for indications,” said Mafunda.
