Tuesday, 18 December 2012 10:49
HARARE - The case of former Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) chief executive Henrietta Rushwaya who is accused of masterminding the Asiagate scandal has been transferred to Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Courts.

Rushwaya’s trial, which was being held at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts, was yesterday moved to Chitungwiza, where the presiding magistrate Esthere Chivasa is now based.

Harare magistrate Noel Mupeyiwa, on behalf of Chivasa, yesterday deferred the matter to January 10 next year for trial continuation.

Rushwaya is facing nine counts of corruptly concealing a transaction from a principal.

Four state witnesses have so far testified in the case.

Among witnesses yet to testify are Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke and chief operating officer Givemore Chidzidzi who were yesterday available to give evidence.

According to state papers, Rushwaya is being accused of organising several matches outside the country between 2007 and 2010 without advising her principals.

The court heard between October 2007 and November of the same year, Rushwaya facilitated an international sporting tour for the Warriors to participate in the Agribank Cup in Vietnam, where the team lost to Finland, Vietnam and drew with Uzbekistan.

It is alleged that Rushwaya further organised soccer matches in Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, Malaysia, Thailand, China and Bulgaria, without Zifa authority. - Tendai Kamhungira
