Robbers torture victim to death
Friday, 26 April 2013 10:16
HARARE - Two men who allegedly tortured their victims, killing one in the process have appeared before a Harare magistrate.

Clemence Maminimini, 33, and Kindness Mubariri, 21, who are being charged with robbery, attempted murder and murder, were remanded in custody to May 9 by magistrate Don Ndirowei.

Prosecutor Junior Mugebe alleges that on March 27 this year, the two Seke men, in the company of Tafadzwa Maminimini, went to William Walmsley’s house in Avonlea.

Armed with bolt cutters, iron bars and electric shockers, they removed a pillar from the pre-cast wall to gain entry into the yard, the court heard.

Once in the yard, they allegedly forced open the toilet window, cut the burglar bars and got inside the house.

While in the house they went to Walmsley’s bedroom and confronted him and his wife Jacqueline, who had retired to bed.

The court heard that Maminimini and Mubariri severely assaulted the couple using iron bars and also tortured them using live electricity while demanding cash and valuables.

Walmsley became unconscious and was left lying on the floor battling for his life while his wife died as a result of the assault.

Allegations are that the duo ransacked the house and stole various Apple gadgets, mobile phones and a handbag containing personal documents.

On April 20, Maminimini and Mubariri were arrested and led the police to the recovery of some of the stolen items, the court heard.

They also showed the police where the electric shockers they used had been hidden. On April 23, they indicated to the police at the scene of the crime how they had committed the offence. Maminimini is still on the run. - Helen Kadirire
