HARARE - Aspiring MDC legislator for Mbare Sten Zvorwadza has sought police protection from the infamous Chipangano youth militia which he accuses of scuttling his business projects in the constituency.

Zvorwadza, through his Mascom Investments company finance administrator Gertrude Marjory Kamhunga, wrote a letter to Matapi Police Station last week requesting protection from the Zanu PF-aligned militia.

“We are the owners of Stand Number 19826, Old Pump House, in Matapi Mbare,” reads the letter to police.

“This property is a designated hardware. Please be advised that on numerous occasions we were either asked to stop doing work on the premises or attacked by Zanu PF members led by chairperson Clifford Mazarura and secretary Clever Ntabene.

“We complied under duress and halted the project of installing underground paraffin tanks, selling of timber and steel on the premises over the past year.

“We went to court over these disturbances and the outcome of the court hearing was in our favour.”

Zvorwadza said he had made a follow-up by meeting with the police last Friday to clarify the matter.

The businessman said he had been given the green light to start installation of paraffin tanks and other mentioned projects this week.

Matapi Police Station officer-in-charge who only identified himself as Inspector Zvobgo confirmed receiving the letter from Zvorwadza.
