50 die, 273 injured in holiday accidents
Wednesday, 03 April 2013 10:54
HARARE - The Easter holidays’ death toll has increased to 50, with 273 people injured in 424 road accidents countrywide, police have said.

National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said five more people died to add to the 45 recorded on Monday morning.

“Most of the accidents are being caused by human error, which include turning errors and speeding. The police are concerned about the misuse of haulage trucks that are being used as public transport contributing to the increase in road carnage,” Nyathi said.

The police said Midlands Province tops the accidents list after recording 11 deaths, Manicaland comes second with 10 followed by Mashonaland East, which has eight.

“By the end of our Easter and school holiday, Bulawayo remains clean,” Nyathi said.
