HARARE - Zanu PF politburo member Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, whose colleges were shut down for allegedly failing to meet standards, is back in business.

Ndlovu, a renowned educationist, had two of his colleges operating in Mutare and Gweru under the Zimbabwe Distance Education Centre (Zdeco) brand deregistered by government last month.

He was a happy man when the Daily News met him yesterday.

Ndlovu said he quickly organised a meeting with fellow politburo member Ignatius Chombo who personally ensured the matter was ironed out.

Chombo is acting Higher Education minister.

“I had a meeting with minister Chombo and we managed to resolve the matter, which had caused panic amongst parents and students.

“Everything has now been normalised. Chombo told me that a mistake had been made by his officials to deregister my colleges.

“The colleges are now operating professionally,” said the former education and information minister.
“There were no good reasons to deregister them in the first place.

“I have been running Zdeco colleges since 1980 without any problems,” said Ndlovu.

Ndlovu said he had produced the relevant documents concerning the registration of his college to Chombo’s satisfaction.

Last month, Chombo cracked the whip on private colleges and institutions operating outside the law.
