HARARE - Parliamentary speaker Lovemore Moyo has acknowledged receipt of Munyaradzi Kereke’s omnious letter for immunity and protection to source information allegedly implicating Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor Gideon Gono in various acts of fraud, and financial impropriety.

The Movement for Democratic Change chairman yesterday told the Daily News that he will “soon act” on the request.

“I can confirm that we received the letter and we are still studying it. It is more of a procedural and technical issue than it is a political issue.

“We should be able to make a decision soon,” said Moyo, adding he will not make a decision based on politics but parliamentary procedures and standing orders and he was going to consult with parliamentary counsel before making a decision.

Kereke’s letter three days ago came after has was slapped with multiple and $25 million defamation lawsuits by Gono, as the former continues with his unintelligible fight against the central bank boss.

In the latest salvo, the Rockfoundation Medical Centre proprietor not only accuses unnamed senior government officials of trying to intimidate him out of nailing Gono, but he has added a new raft of allegations — all dismissed by Gono as baseless.

“I write to you to make a landmark request that the Parliament of Zimbabwe grants me leave and immunity to source, and produce before the High Court of Zimbabwe information, which l know certainly exists proving the rampant acts of theft of millions of public funds fraud, corruption, gross abuse of office, betrayal of national interests and breach of the Official Secrets Act and other vices by... Gono,” Kereke said, adding the latter’s emissaries have threatened him with arrest under the Official Secrets Act should he testify in any court or the august house.

In the letter, the young businessman cheekily says OSA must not be used to suppress the free flow of information in Zimbabwe.
