Women demand more

HARARE - Loving husbands, money and education are the top three needs women want guaranteed in a new constitution, a survey has revealed.

Presenting the results of a baseline survey carried out by Katswe Sistahood, an organisation that seeks to enhance women’s knowledge on their judicial, social and economic rights, coordinator Tariro Jumo said the three came out tops in a survey on constitutional expectations of women.

“We asked the questions what three things would give you a better life and they said a loving husband, money and education. The things might sound so small but they are important,” said Tariro Jumo yesterday.

“The three issues raised are critical in women’s lives as they are a lynch pin for her to access other rights,” said Jumo.

The survey was aimed at measuring women appreciation, participation and establishing barriers to participation in the constitution-making process.

Katswe interviewed 15 young women, 30 school youth just out of school and 20 young women in tertiary institutions between ages 15 and 35. - Wendy Muperi
