HARARE - President Robert Mugabe is today expected to attend the swearing in ceremony of Kenya president-elect Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mugabe will join several African leaders at the Nairobi ceremony at which Kenyatta’s vice William Ruto will also be sworn in.

Kenyatta, who becomes Kenya’s fourth president will replace Mwai Kibaki, who is retiring from politics after serving 10 years as the country’s leader.

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba confirmed that Mugabe was leaving for Nairobi.

Kenyatta defeated Raila Odinga in presidential elections held last month in the east African country, but his swearing in ceremony was delayed after Odinga filed a Supreme Court challenge.

Kenya’s Supreme Court last week dismissed Odinga’s challenge.

Kenyatta and Ruto are facing crimes against humanity after being charged by the International Criminal Court in the Hague.

They are expected to appear before court in July on charges related to the 2008 election violence which rocked the country after a disputed poll. - Staff Writer
