HARARE - Chitungwiza South legislator Misheck Shoko claims he found a bullet in his letter box on January 15, allegedly from his MDC counterparts as rivalry escalates in the party over primary elections.

The MP, who is also a veteran  of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and former Chitungwiza mayor, said his son found the bullet in the mail box at his home.

Shoko told the Daily News he suspects the bullet was sent by rivals eyeing his constituency ahead of the party’s primary elections to choose candidates for the forthcoming general elections.

He said he would not be forced out of the constituency by the threats on his life.

“My son found the bullet in our mail box and he gave it to me on January 15. I don’t want to blame Zanu PF for this one and I reported the matter to the police RRB number 1661766,” said Shoko.

“I gave them the name of my suspects because there are people within my party who want to intimidate me into withdrawing my candidature in Chitungwiza South but they are wasting their time.

“I am a war veteran and cannot be intimidated by bullets that have not been fired because I have been shot at during the war. I advise them to shoot me if they can. Maybe that will stop me because God has a plan for the people of my constituency,” said Shoko.

Harare police spokesperson Tedious Chibanda could not deny or confirm the matter referring questions one sergeant Musendo of CID law and order section.

Musendo said she would verify the facts after she returned to the office as she was at the hospital.

Chivambo continued to receive beatings from the cops despite the serious injuries he had sustained, while the other residents were detained regardless of their critical conditions, the court heard.

Shumba ordered that Chivambo be taken to the hospital the following day after being advised of his deteriorating condition.

Chivambo eventually succumbed to the injuries and died at Shamva District Hospital.

A pathologist who carried a post mortem concluded the death was a result of multiple injuries sustained during the assault. - Mugove Tafirenyika
