HARARE - GODWIN Gogwe (23) walked away with the grand prize of $25 000 after beating three other contestants in the grand finale of the My Own Boss at the Celebration Centre on Saturday Night.

The 23 year old out-shone Odert Kosimoni, Simanga Zhou and Munashe Noel Mugarisanwa to claim the ultimate prize.

Gogwe also received a business kit worth R25 000 from Comfort Dhewa, CEO of Comfort Resources.

Gogwe promised to form a joint company with second-placed Kasimoni.

Mugarisanwa and Zhou were chosen as last minute challengers to the two in-house finalists Kosimoni and Gwege but their entrepreneurship skills, however, failed to win over banker Nigel Chanakira who was the judge at the glamorous event.

Zhou who came third in the competition was able to carry out a task of selling coupons worthy $1 where the one winner would win a Hyundai car.

Mugarisanwa failed to come up with a strategy that could promote the Buy Zimbabwe brand ZimBho that is going on this festive season and came fourth as a result.

Judge Chanakira said Gogwe won the grand prize because of his leadership skills, vision and excellent marketing skills.

The prominent banker also failed second-placed who he described Kosimoni is a competent entrepreneur.

“This was a tough decision because Kosimoni is competitive”, said Chanakira.

“But because of Gogwe’s marketing techniques, creativity, leadership and his marketing skills he is the rightful winner, he needs the money to start his business”.

In his task, Gogwe managed to sell 10 cars at Willowvale Motors while Kosimoni sold 700 refrigerators for Capri.

In an interview with the Daily News Chanakira praised MOB as an important event to the society.

“This is very important. Well- groomed youths like these youths are likely make less business mistakes,” he said.

Chanakira revealed that he has established an institution called Motivation Institute Africa aimed at nurturing young entrepreneurs.

Flamboyant businessman Phillip Chiyangwa promised Kosimoni a stand worth $12 000.

He also pledged a stand to the other eighteen contestants who failed to win the competition that they are expected to collectively sell and share the proceeds.

 At the closing show was also ExQ, Stunner, Cindy, the Mabiribobi comedy group and the energetic Mudiwa who put up unblemished performances thrilling the MOB audience. - Kaleen Gombera
