HARARE - Dancehall star Winky D hopes to use award-winning South African Mi Casa’s March 28 show where he will be a supporting act to once again show his international class.

The reggae star, whose real name is Wallace Chirumiko, will curtain-raise for the popular South African act alongside many other local artistes who include Amara Brown, Cindy, Jnr Brown, Tehn Diamond, Ba Shupi, Trevor Dongo, Synik and Nox.

Zimbabwe’s most popular stand-up comedian Carl Joshua Ncube will be the host.

Jonathan Banda, Winky D’s manager told the Daily News that the ninja president was ready to raise the Zimbabwe flag with pride.

“Winky D and his backing band are making adequate preparations to ensure that they surpass the very high standards which our fans are used to”, said Banda.

“We don’t want to disappoint those who support us .We will, as usual, give our very best because it is another chance to show our class. When you share the stage with an international act you really have to put in extra effort,” said Banda.

Mi Casa’s tour of Zimbabwe is being organised by Max Mugabe’s May 7 Entertainment in partnership with Endaweni Restaurant.

Mugabe, who has brought popular South African singer Zahara several times to Zimbabwe, said  Mi Casa’s maiden tour of Zimbabwe will go a long way in marketing Zimbabwe.

Mi Casa group is a three-member house band based in Johannesburg, South Africa consisting of Dr. Duda who is the producer and pianist, Jsomething who does vocals as well as the vocalist and also plays the guitar and trumpeter Mo-T.

The band was formed in early 2011 in Johannesburg when all three future members were at a night lounge and decided to perform together.

 A few months later, they released an album titled Mi Casa Music, which “went gold” quickly and won several awards at the 18th Annual MTN South Africa Music Awards in 2012.

Their hit single These Streets off the album Mi Casa Music showcases the group’s unique urban jazz sound.

Since their 2011 debut, the group has won three awards on the back of 10 nominations.

The South African threesome had a rare honour to perform along with another award-winning South African musician Lira to perform at US President Barack Obama’s inauguration in January. - Bryn Gumbo
