Play Warrior premiers in Netherlands

HARARE - Zimbabwean top film maker, Rumbi Katedza’s film Play Warrior is billed for screening at the prestigious Africa Film Festival slated for Leiden in Netherlands.

The university-powered festival is sponsored by Leiden Cultuurfonds, in cooperation with Africa in Pictures as part of the Africa Studies Centre’s (ASC) 65th anniversary celebrations.

Play Warrior, a Zimbabwean film will be one of the four recent films to be screened on the last day of Leiden International Film Festival twined with Africa Film Festival to be held at Complex Scheltema in Leiden on October 28.

 The films explore and reflect renascences of the modern Africa.

In a statement ASC said: “The two film festivals seeks to celebrate independent achievements and encourage the growth of togetherness through motion pictures,”

Play Warrior will be screened along with Phone Swap directed by Kunle Afolayan of Nigeria, Maris de nuit, directed by Fabienne Kanor of France, Viva Riva by Djo Tunda Wa Munga of Congo, the controversial piece explores corruption and illegal dealing in a country with instability.

Play Warrior is a local comedy film which features Kudzai Sevenzo and Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, Zimbabwe’s finest songbirds alongside Ben Mahaka Michael Kudakwashe and Edgar Langeveldt, John Pfumojena.
