HARARE - Celebrated dancehall artistes Winky D and Sniper Storm are set to share the stage early next month for the first time since their bust-up as supporting acts of Jamaican star Mavado’s show in January.

During the Mavado show, Sniper snatched the microphone from Winky D whose act had overlapped into his allocated time.

Sniper’s actions prompted fans to throw missiles at him on stage forcing him to quit without performing.

Sniper, whose other stage name is The General, was only to perform at Mavado’s other show at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Centre a day later.

The two’s unlikely reunion has been made possible by Red Rose Entertainment who have lined up a concert of Zimbabwe’s best dancehall talent at the City Sports Centre on December 7.

Event organiser Barbara Chikosi is optimistic about the event.

“The gig is aimed at promoting local dancehall artistes,” said Chikosi.

“We want to showcase this popular type of music.

“Young people are very fond of this type of music that is why we have gone out of our way to make it happen”.

The show will also feature Emegy Chizanga, popularly known in music circles as Freeman.

After performing at the City Sports Centre gig, Freeman will leave for South Africa where he will perform alongside Jamaican star King Shango.

King Shango, who was originally known as Capleton, will be gracing the Cape Town International Reggae Fest slated for December 8 and 9.

Other big names lined up to perform at the City Sports Centre dancehall fiesta include Lady Squanda, Lady B, Jiggaz, Freeman, Guspy Warrior Gary B, Templeman Godfatha, Smylie, Judgement Yard and Mighty Ducks.

The queen of Zimbabwean dancehall, Lady Squanda who turns 21 on November 24, has promised dancehall enthusiasts a show to remember.

“Fans should expect nothing but the very best from me as usual.

“I will give a classical performance that will blow the fans away,” promised the animated dancehall star who has more than 20 songs to her name. - Vasco Chaya
