HARARE - Punchline Entertainment leading woman, Lady Squanda was involved in a car accident along Glenara Road on Saturday, in a case attributed to negligence and drunken driving of the other party.

The dancehall sensation was travelling with her manager Hillary “Punchline” Mutake, her boyfriend DJ Stayera and Mutake’s brother Grant.

Three of them sustained serious injuries with Mutake suffering a broken neck.

Speaking to the Daily News, Mutake narrated the painful ordeal.

“We were on our way from a show in Shamva, headed to Mabvuku for another show. Then there were these kids who were racing along the road and they overtook us. All of a sudden one driving a Mercedes Benz made a U-turn in front of us and we hit him on the middle of the car."

“I tried to avoid him but I later realised that he was drunk and they were doing a silly race on the road. Lady Squanda was sitting on the front passenger seat and suffered some head injuries,” he said.

Mutake said after police arrived on the scene they discovered that the boy was underage and drunk.

“The boy was 15 years old and he was drunk. They were two in the car,” he said.

Lady Squanda on the other hand said she felt bad about what happened on the night because she did not make it to her show.

“I want to apologise for what happened as I had never done a show in Mabvuku before. I know my fans were looking forward to seeing me perform and it is unfortunate that this had to happen. My head is still aching but I want to thank God that everyone is okay. I will make it up to my fans but the good thing is that we are all okay,” she said.

Lady Squanda is currently hot property on the dancehall scene, producing hit songs.

She is signed to Punchline Records run by Mutake, the stable in which Freeman of the Joina City fame is engaged.

Her song Rudo is currently rocking national radio and this has led her to become the most sought after female dancehall artiste.

She did collaborations with Freeman on the songs Neshungu and Dancehall Doctor.

Lady Squanda jointly released her album The Queen Unleashed with Freeman who was releasing the album Last Man Standing in March.

Lady Squanda has songs including Sadza, Bronco, Babamukuru and many others.

She has taken ghetto youths by storm and her songs can be heard booming in public transport, shops and the high density suburbs.
