HARARE - Sixteen-year-old bassist Miriam Chimbetu stole the limelight from her brother Tryson during the 21st February Movement music gala held in Glendale last weekend.

The teenager was given a platform to showcase her talent by her brother who introduced her as the “Marxist Brothers’ newest member”.

Her skills on the bass guitar won her lots of admirers in Glendale on Friday night last week.

Miriam is taking over from her late father Naison who was also a reputable bassist.

Miriam will feature on her brother’s forthcoming album to be titled Campus.

The bass-playing prodigy contributed to the song Ndondo.

The teenager did not look out of place in the predominantly male Marxist Brothers band.

“I am glad dendera fans liked the way I played the bass guitar”, said a chuffed Miriam.

“I am promising more to come and am happy to be working alongside my brother.”

Tryson was visibly moved by the adulation his sister attracted from the large audience.

“I am happy because my sister is very gifted. What she showed today is just an insight of what will be in our forthcoming album to be released on March 22,” said Tryson.

Tryson sampled a few songs from his forthcoming album which included Gore Rino Ibhora Mberi which thrilled the fans.

The Marxist Brothers’ frontman introduced a new dance called Chiredzo which predominantly revolves around the head.

Tryson and the rest of the Chimbetu dynasty will converge at the Andy Miller Hall in the Harare Showgrounds on March 22 to honour his late legendary father Naison who died on March 6, 2005. - Bryn Gumbo
