BULWAYO - Treble National Arts Merit Award (Nama) winner Suluman Chimbetu used his first show in Bulawayo in the last four years to show why he is Zimbabwe’s musician of the moment.

The young dendera music heir befittingly made a triumphant return to Zimbabwe’s cultural hub with a show at Amakhosi Cultural Centre.

Sulu conceded that Bulawayo fans deserved a great show to compensate for the long wait for his show.

“For the past four years I can confirm that we have never been to Bulawayo”, said the Sean Timba singer.

“But now I realise that we really command a huge support base here as witnessed by the lovely crowd that attended our show on Friday night,” Sulu told the Daily News.

The overwhelming support from the Bulawayo fans has prompted the dendera star to line up shows in Zimbabwe’s second largest city with the next one likely to be during the Easter holiday.

Sulu arrived in the city at around 10pm from another show.

The chic musician had to patiently comply with the crowd that constantly demanded the popular hit track Sean Timba to be repeated.

“I have never seen this before, I can’t even remember how many times I played Sean Timba but what I can say is Bulawayo rocks” said Sulu.

Sulu’s gig was initially slated for the Khumalo Hockey Stadium but the venue had to be changed at the last minute reportedly due to complaints by residents in the flashy suburbs near the stadium who dreaded possible loud noise from Sulu’s show.

As a result, new posters were hurriedly posted on the day of the show.

A truck had to move around the streets of Bulawayo with a loudhailer advising the fans of the change of venue.

As part of his tight schedule in Bulawayo, Sulu visited the King George VI School where he entertained the school’s physically challenged children.

“As artists we sometimes have to move out of our busy schedule and do social responsibilities in the communities.

“I felt that since I have not been to Bulawayo for a long time as I needed to do something worthwhile for the people of Bulawayo hence we chose this school and I am very inspired to mix and mingle with people living with disabilities,” Sulu explained.

The children took time to dance to the dazzling Sean Timba and to pose for photographs with their icon.

King George VI principal Perseverance Hadebe lauded Sulu’s gesture.
