HARARE - It was a hectic Easter holiday for artistes who spent most of their time working on various projects while others entertained fans across the country.

Olivia Charamba, wife to the seasoned gospel musician Charles said she began her Easter holiday with a concert in Kadoma on Saturday before going to church the following day.

“On Friday, I was busy preparing for the Kadoma concert and on Saturday we were performing.

“On Sunday, I was at the church praising God and I only had time with the family on Monday,” she said.

Popular dancer Beverly Sibanda aka Bev of Sexy Angels said she overworked herself during the Easter holidays.

“I was so tied-up throughout the holiday; I never got enough time to spend with my son.

“On Friday, I was performing in Bindura at Tendai Hall while the following day I was in Kadoma.

“On Sunday, I had a show at Chitubu in Glen Norah and I only rested on Monday when I spent the day watching television before going to Suluman Chimbetu’s concert for fun,” she said.

Towering artiste Jah Prayzah who recently launched his fourth album Tsviriyo at Jazz 105 in Harare said he never got a chance to enjoy the Easter egg.

“It was all business throughout the Easter holiday. I started the holiday with a concert at Book Cafe on Friday before performing at Hwenjes in Glen Norah on Saturday afternoon.

“In the evening of Saturday I performed in Mvurwi before dating Warren Park’s Hill Top Nite Club.  On Sunday, I had a concert at Mega 1 Bar,” he said.

Dendera artiste Tryson Chimbetu said it was a hectic holiday for him as well.

“I performed at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton together with Tsvete, a group groomed by the superstar Oliver Mtukudzi on Friday and I was performing in Tafara on Saturday while I was at Mushandirapamwe Hotel in Highfield on Sunday,” he said.

Renowned mbira musician Chiwoniso Maraire said she had enjoyed the Easter holiday.

“Unlike the previous years, I really enjoyed this year’s Easter holiday. I spent the whole Easter with family in Avondale, I did not have a show during the Easter and I was so free,” said Maraire.

National Arts Merit Award-winning author Elias Machemedze like his colleagues said he was busy doing his daily business throughout the Easter holidays.

“I spent the entire holiday compiling my poems since I am racing against time.

“I am putting final touches to my book which is set to be published in July so I did not enjoy the holiday,” said Machemedze who wrote the award-winning novel Sarawoga.

Internationally-acclaimed sculptor Dominic Benhura said he never enjoyed the holiday as he was busy carrying out daily routine at his gallery.

“The Easter holidays were no different from other normal days to me, I spent the entire holiday working,” said Benhura. - Entertainment Writer
