Reflections of Alick Macheso
Monday, 22 October 2012 15:46
Alick Macheso
HARARE - Alick Macheso is arguably Zimbabwe’s all-time highest selling musician.

He has become a master of songs whose passion for his trade is expressed via his guitar prowess and romantic lyrics — often sending glowing tributes to women.

I love his music but despite being boss at the entertainment desk, I never had an opportunity to meet this dude or interview him.

But God delivered him to my path on Oliver Mtukudzi’s 60th birthday — on the day celebrated musicians such as Dorothy Masuka and Ringo Madlingozi graced the occasion.

I had the previous experience of talking to Macheso on the phone and arranging meetings that never materialised.

It was with this in mind that I approached Macheso with caution wondering whether he was sober since he was about to go on stage.

I noticed he was holding a can and on approaching I saw it was a soft drink (Fanta).

I put on my most charming journalistic face that says friendly and at the same time work.

The obvious opening line was to find out which was Macheso’s favourite song from Tuku’s vast collection.

He said Wenge Mambo without hesitation.

“I love most of Mudhara Tuku’s works but Wenge Mambo is my favourite as it talks about not associating with bad people.

“That one should not give his child to a witch, that way one will do away with trouble and so on.”

Macheso spoke highly of Tuku and how he provided him with inspiration.

From that ice-breaker, I saw that Macheso was relaxed and in a very good mood and this is when I decided to lengthen my meeting into an on spot interview.

I have always liked Macheso’s music and that he expressed depth in his lyrics.

The song Makandidana from his album Vapupuri Pupurai quickly came to my mind.

The song used to put tears in my brother’s voice whenever he called from the diaspora, trying to explain that he was out of money to call home all the time and to send groceries.

This was in year 2008.

I asked Macheso about this song and his facial features became cloudy as if remembering something unpleasant.

“I played that song in London once and one guy afterwards told me that it took him back to his parent’s house in Mbare and he wondered what his family was surviving on because he did not have enough to send home.

‘The diaspora was not what it was believed to be financially.”

Macheso has produced many hits with lyrics that have become “viral” in Zimbabwe.

He is credited with bringing new dances and slogans.

“I was born in 1968 and started singing in 1983. My mother said the radio used to be stopped from playing to give me rest. I loved music and dancing and it was part of me.

There is no place that is full of good dances such as Mashonaland Central.

“People there can dance so most of these dances were performed some time ago.

“I take time with my music and I do all the arrangements to my music,” he told the Daily News On Sunday.
But Macheso’s musical journey was not rosy.

“When I started, we used to perform in farming communities and growth points because sungura was not accepted in towns.

“I remember moving around in Chiredzi for 31 days on a tour.

We did not have reliable transport and adults would pay 50 cents to enter our shows and children 25 cents.

It was gruesome; we would move around and get so little to show of our work.”

With time, sungura started receiving appreciation and Macheso began receiving a better pay cheque.

He described his musical life during his stint with Nicholas Zakaria and later the formation of his backing group — Orchestra Mberikwazvo.

Macheso is rumoured to be charmed by sangomas but chuckled when I asked him about this assertion.

“People say I have a very strong n’anga or that the person who gave me the charm died after giving me too much luck.

“But really, there is nothing like that. I believe in God who looks after me and those that went into the spiritual world before us.

“I am inspired by my mother. She looked after me and also my grandmother was very supportive.

“I built her a house in Musana, near Bindura, just to thank her.”

The indefatigable musician has a father too.

“My Father is in Malawi. I do not talk to him but I guess he hears about me,” said Macheso in a warm face that did not seem troubled.

We spoke briefly about his two wives, Nyadzisai and Tafadzwa. He said he is happy in his polygamous marriage.

From Petunia, Sara, Madhuve and later Chimoko Changu, Macheso has revealed an unparalleled prowess of talking to women.

“Nyaya yezvimoko inondinakidza, kunyatso describha zvandinonzwa.

“I get my inspiration from my mother and I respect women so much, that’s why I sing about them in a loving manner,” he explained.

In August, Macheso outperformed himself at the Defence Forces Day and he was called to the podium by the presidium.

Something curious happened when Macheso presented himself to President Robert Mugabe.

Macheso told the Daily News on Sunday that he indeed cried.

Why? He said his life came rushing to his eyes; how he struggled with his mother, growing up in Shamva’s mining community, later starting serious music and not getting paid enough from it and finally hitting the jackpot in his career.

“They were tears of joy. The culmination of sweat and hardwork...Zvakaoma kudaro, I was recognised by the country’s top brass.”

As much as it is his personal life, Tsvangirai has to change his ways. Is the wedding going ahead anyway considering the problems with ex-fiance Locadia. Hameno.

Zimbabweans cannot afford to go back to 2008. We need a clear winner in the next election.

A leader that is incapable of holding in his biological "virtue" exhibits extreme leadership inabilities. People, this route you are taking will lead us to political prostitution, as, if we as a people are led by someone that can enter into one woman tonight, then into another, and then another on another day, what stops that person from leading us into agreements with nations that have vile agendas, leaving us enslaved or internationally ridiculed? This matter is not a light one. Even though it is in every African man to feel like a bull on heat and able to express passion, we are however a new breed that have what is called "moderation". Corruption is easier to stop as it has roots in "greed and bitterness", but Promiscuity is extremely difficult to stop as it has roots in "prostitution and selfishness". I'd rather follow a bitter man than a promiscuous man, at least the former is hurting and needs love and assurance that our intentions are for a better future, yet the latter is unknown. It is easy to be on any throne, but character of the leader is far much more important. I am extremely disappointed by my Prime Minister and if I have a chance to speak to him in person I would highly recommend that he apologizes to Zimbabwe and listens to the counsel that is around him, as in the multitude of counsel there is safety. As a simple behaviour analysis, this "Morgan Scandal" is an inadequacy that resulted in the spliting of MDC to MDC-T, MDC-M, MDC-N, and all the other alphabets, as no one wants to follow a leader that does not know how to say no to fleshly delicacies. I am grossly peeved by this Right Honourable Prime Minister, Founder & President of MDC-T and Troubled Casanova Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

u rushed to the courts my sister and get it from me PM will never forgive u for the situation you created around him.Why do you want to talk now and solve it amicably as you claim.Don't waste your resources by engaging those lawyers, they are milking you for nothing.Do you think whatever they are going to advice you or touch will bring back the PM's love to you. Most people i talked with concerning this issue are in thought that there is sinister hand behind the scene because of the way you rushed to courts.Do you not trust all the people around you my sister, be it relatives, friends or lawyers...it seems like you are being poisoned with bad advice.i wish i could have the opportunity to advice you

Well this is rather far fetched is ZANUPF this powerful to even influence events in SA and is the CIO also that powerful what then does it say about SA security and on the issue of the supposed $100m we all know that the government especially the security sector is reeling from financial constraints due to lack of budgetary support. Remember the Minister of Finance is MDC

They (those in the know) say ignorance is bliss! PM Tsvangirai is sure blissful in his ignorance! The count down to the next elections has started and the PM has not managed to force Mugabe to accept not even one of the democratic reforms agreed in the GPA. Not one! The COPAC constitution, his flag political child he has spent the last four years and over US$ 100 million taking care of, has turned out to be Mugabe's child in all but name. This COPAC draft will do nothing to end Zimbabwe's scourge of political violence, will not deliver any democratic reforms and, ultimately, will never deliver free and fair elections. And yet contrary to the grime consequence of yet another bloody election for MDC, the PM is in full voice asking the nation to vote YES to the COPAC draft and talking of the struggle coming to "fruition"! Former US Ambassador said Tsvangirai was a "flawed and indecisice character" and the PM has proven the Ambassador right a thousand times and a thousand times again as he has moved from one blunder to the next. Some of these blunders have costed the nation dearly and the next elections will be just one more costly blunder paid in body bags!

“We need to put our house in order instead of thumb-sucking a figure.” PM Tsvangirai’s spokesman Tamborenyoka said following an attach of MDC supporters that left some of them hospitalised. “The recent violent encounter is a clear indication that Zimbabwe is not ready for an election.” In stark contrast to what the PM has been telling the party supporters only the day before! This should be a wake-up call to MDC supporters who seem to be doing a lot of thumb-sucking of themselves and have followed Tsvangirai blindly over the years. The Prime Minister has had over four years now to implement the democratic reforms necessary to end the violence and deliver free and fair elections and yet not even one reform has been carried out. It is one thing to follow like sheep but another to do so blindly – humans beings are not supposed to follow blindly never ever!

It has absolutely nothing to do with power and everything to do with devious deception and knowing where to put agents in at the right place and time. This is a very well known Zanu PF tactic which frankly is no secret and with anyone half awake easy to counter and I laud South Africa's ANC for what they have seen and now harsh and deserved action is required to put these criminals where they belong! The only financial constraints as we ALL should know is from what is not going into the public coffers but being siphoned off from diamonds, extortion and blackmail through the guise of indigenisation and this provides huge funding for this criminal organ called Zanu PF!

Zanu-PF appointed EXECUTIVE TOWN CLERKS, is this the reason why Chombo stripped Elected Mayors off their Executive authority simply because they were MDC people-elected mayors.

I am an obedient Bulawayo citizen to my council. I flushed AT 7.30 PM last saturday. The toilet went gadoink, gadoink instead of woooosh. No water. I only receive water on sundays from about 10 am to late that night. However, I will continue being obedient. Gadoink, gadoink; gadoink, gadoink. I only receive water once a week, not three times a week.

I heard him prophesy to the young women of his church that wedding rings were falling down from heaven, and they adulated. They went bananas! Popular but not influencial. Quite right, the MDC needs to get more aggressive because at the moment, although they won the last elections, they are being treated like the zpf tea boys. If Morgan puts his foot down, mugabe hasn't the support anymore and will back down. So Morgan, show us that you have the balls to demand what we want and stop this dictator doing what he wants. Start with the diamond money then we might get somewhere.

There is nothing alarming about poor treatment of suspects. ZANU PF faced worse treatment for no reason. The police requested Mangoma to come to the police station but he decided that he can not obey the same law enforcers that he as part of the government command. If leadership fails to show respect for the police's lawful order then they should not be surprised by the level of lawlessness and violence because POVO cannot obey police orders too.

What experience are you talking of here Esrom? You are a coward. Do you mean that all those youngsters from Angola were at AFCON when you qualified in 2004? Khama did put up a splendid performance yet he was not there. The Team's mid was not visible, in fact there was noone there hence starving all the strikers of balls and scoring opportunities. So come off it Esrom maybe your coaches are the ones who lacked experience ,especially Rhaman Gumbo.

Thank God the winners of the second world war didn't think they owned England or that England owed them anything for nothing after that war. This stupid uneducated idea that Zimbabwe can only be run by the war vets is there because they see lots of things they can steal. What if most of the population vote for the MDC, that should tell zpf that most people don't care that a few people died for their freedom that they don't have. People want a change and zpf must stop ranting how they were all heroes and no one else in this country matters. Besides, there can only be a few of the actual fighters left now and they must be very old, so who needs those old ideas except them who are getting things for free. If the MDC wins I hope the military commanders will go to jail for the murders they have committed because they shunned the amnesty offered to them.

I refer to the headline 'bloodbath if Zanu PF loses'. To Rugare Gumbo I say that what is now happening is that most Zimbabweans would like to not be beaten around elections. They would like their houses to not be burnt. They would like youths to respect them, not threaten them. They would like the police to prosecute the criminals and let go the righteous, instead of prosecuting the righteous and KOWTOWing to the criminals and drinking with them. They would like the police to receive their pay and keep bribe money in the evidence locker, instead of receiving their bribes and keeping the innocent in lockup. They would like the army to protect them from foreign threats, and be at peace with the masses, instead of threatening the masses, and giving foreigners peace and protection [mengistu etc]. In 1980 we had the Zim dollar, now we have the currency of our enemy. We had Zesa, now we are rationed. We had water, now we are thirsty and stinky. We had clean roads, now we have a safari journey. We had shirts, now we have zhing zhong. We had cars for African roads now we have cars for Japanese cities. We had rain, and now we have drought. We were given seeds, now we have to buy them. We had fertilizer, now there is none. We had free education, now we sweat to pay. We had medicine in clinics and long lives, now we have bush medicine and die young. We fed the surrounding nations and laughed at their farmers, now our ex-farmers are farming in the surrounding nations and laughing all the way to their banks. We had winter wheat and bread on the table, but now we have bare tables and Argentine wheat. We grew our own chickens and fed our children, but now we have Brazilian chickens and giant children. We worshiped our president and were grateful to the party, but now we live in fear of the president and would be grateful for another party. The Ndebele lived in peace and bathed in clean water, but then they had a bloodbath and no water. The people in Mbare lived in shacks, and enjoyed their property, but now they live in plastic and have no property. We would like the hardliners to be merciful to the president, allowing him to retire, relax at home, have tea in the garden. We would like the president to enjoy his children and talk to them about their dreams, their struggles, and go shopping with them in peace, buying them clothes, sports gear and ipads. Rugare Gumbo makes it clear that a small clique of men are unwilling to let go their power, their money, their glory. He makes it appear that the whole nation can rot while the selfish clique desperately continues to hold on to power. When Paul Getty was the richest man in the world, he was asked how much more money he needed. Couldn't he relax and enjoy his billions? He replied 'I need just a little more'. It appears that the hardliners also want just a little more [or maybe a lot more]. Zimbabweans are now looking for anyone to help them. We are desperate also. May the zookazammzamm party of bulugiland help us ... ANYONE OUT THERE help us get rid of the burden of the nation carrying a small group of selfish people who care nothing for the people. Gumbo has all but admitted it. They wish to exchange our blood for so they can enjoy.... and enjoy ... and enjoy. You were our liberators, but now you are our Goliaths. To the Davids out there, the nation says please help us.

“They do not want elections because if you try and tick our democratisation progress under the Global Political Agreement you will see we fall far short,” Matinenga said. Why did Prime Minister Tsvangirai and his MDC party “fall far short” in getting the reforms implemented; they have had the last four years to carry out the task? Sadly instead of pushing the reforms through PM Tsvangirai has been too busy globe-trotting and chasing women – angaita zvingani! – and now the nation is going to pay dearly for it. Another bloodbath; s***t! It is now even more imperative that the COPAC draft is rejected in the upcoming referendum because once Mugabe has this rubbish new constitution there will nothing to stop him holding fresh elections – fresh bloody elections!

“Mugabe is part of the solution because of his grip on the party and the institutions of the state,” Tsvangirai said. The sad reality is Mugabe has the “grip on the institutions of state” because Tsvangirai has allowed the tyrant to have that grip. This is the very point Andrew Marr highlighted to Tsvangirai back in 2009 after the signing of the GPA. Tsvangirai was boasting about his magnanimity in agreeing to work with Mugabe and comparing himself to President Nelson Mandela when he agreed to work with SA’s white racists after the fall of apartheid. Andrew reminded Tsvangirai that President Mandela had dismantled apartheid whereas he was working with Mugabe whilst the Zanu PF dictatorship was still intact! Tsvangirai allowed Mugabe to retain all his dictatorial powers, “his grip on the institutions of state” as he admits, and now he is using that as the excuse for his initial stupid decision. After the sham 2008 presidential run-off elections Tsvangirai did not need to enter into any power sharing agreement with Mugabe much less under such unfair terms in which Mugabe had the tyrannical powers. Tsvangirai thought he was being magnanimous in signing the GPA; he was being stupid, plain and simple!

Mugabe may be old but if Tsvangirai thinks the tyrant is going to just “give up” power, much less to him, he is being very naïve. There are vultures within Zanu PF who have been waiting to take over from Mugabe; and they too have a very firm grip on the institution of state; a lot firmer than Tsvangirai’s baby grip.

This story is typical of most sport journalism in Zimbabwe where sports writers want to influence administartive or technical decisions infavour of the teams or individuals they support. You are already shamelessly telling ZIFA to fire Gumpo because of the tackle he made on Moses Chunga and claiming that Bosso fans also want Gumpo fired because of his inluence in the movement of Bosso players to greener pastures. Your basis of aguement towards firing of Gumpo is both shallow and emotional, devoid of the basic knowledge of sport science. Maybe it is the aim of your paper to stir trouble and controversy, please could you do that in politics and leave our sport to develop. ZIFA would be stupid to fire a coach on the whims of your correspondent, Vietnam or Soweto fans who seemingly believe coaching is as easy as drinking beer.

CLOSELY LOOKING AT THESE QUOTATIONS FROM YOUR STORY; With the fans of the two most popular clubs baying for Gumbo’s blood, it is not surprising that he has received little sympathy after failing to lead Zimbabwe to the Afcon finals in neighbouring South Africa despite carrying a 3-1 lead from the first leg in Harare two weeks ago. Gumbo, who was surprisingly re-hired by Zifa as national team coach despite his poor performance in his first stint as Warriors coach, looks set to be fired by the football mother body soon. If the Zifa board goes on to dismiss him as expected — After Gumbo was fired following Zimbabwe’s humiliating 3-0 loss at home to Nigeria during the 2006 Afcon/World Cup qualifiers, many were convinced that Gumbo would never be in the Warriors’ dugout again. How wrong they were! With his apparent nine lives, Gumbo shocked many when he bounced back last February as Warriors coach despite his wretched record in that capacity. I CAN SAFELY SAY ZIMBABWE HAS A LONG WAY TO GO WITH OBJECTIVE SPORT REPORTING. THIS IS DISGUSTING! THIS CORRESPONDENT IS NOT BETTER THAN THE ARCHITECTS OF THE ASIAGATE SCANDAL. HONESTLY, DOES SHE/HE THINK THAT BOSSO AND DYNAMOS FANS WORSE, THE VIETNAM AND SOWETO LOT CAN DICTATE TO ZIFA WHICH COACH TO HIRE? YOUR REPORTER BLINDLY CHRONICLES THE EXCELLENT COACHING RECORD OF GUMPO AND THEN TURNS AROUND AND CONTRADICTS HIMSELF BY SAYING GUMPO HAS A BAD RECORD IN COACHING SIMPLY BECAUSE THE WARRIORS LOST TO NIGERIA? WHICH COACH IN THE WORLD HAS NOT LOST A GAME? AND WHICH COACH IN ZIMBABWE CAN YOUR REPORTER NAME WHO HAS NOT LOST? THE REPORTER WRITES LIKE A DRUNK FAN SITTED AT THE VIETNAM OR SOWETO STAND- PLEASE GIVE US MATURE STORIES!

Well said, what is the point in having elections if these neanderthals are going to murder the people of Zimbabwe so they can stay in power. They should be arrested for speaking like they have because that is tantamount to treason. Will the armed forces in Zimbabwe listen to fools like this and kill us if we vote MDC, is this why they are recruiting so many more police and army recruits so they can brainwash them into zpf ways and hope they will kill us to retain power?

History always finds a way to repeat itself, its all about power and politics. The Anglican church was founded because King Henry VIII was denied a divorce by the Pope and politicians advised him to denounce the Roman catholic church. They took over the church properties and looted the money and some of it was given to the king. Does this sound familiar with Kunonga's story?

I thought that the toilet flushing idea was a great one, so I waited breathlessly and with huge anticiption for the magic day and the magic time. I put it on reminder in my cellphone, and the time drew near. I was going to do my bit for Bulawayo! I pulled the toilet handle. As expected, the toilet made a sound of gadoink! gadoink! There was no water in the cistern because Loch view only gets water once a week! The rest of the week is stinky stinky days. Anyway, I was still enthused about the idea. Sunday came and again i put the date and time on my cell reminders. I checked the cistern.... this time it was gratifyingly full. It was like the naked lunch where the guy brings the fork full of food up to his mouth but the lunch falls off in the critical moment as the food is about to get into his mouth. I puled the lever and whoooooooosh! It flushed! But that is when the naked lunch fell off the fork. I am not connected to the sewer system. I have a soak way!

if it was able to, the baby would hardly say that the maid abused her. I think this definition is wrong. Which is better, drinking warm milk from a warm loving breast, held by gentle arms.... or an impersonal bottle with over processed milk? ............ the real danger is not " the maid abused her" but is the maid HIV positive, because an HIV positive maid can give the innocent, vulnerable hungry baby HIV from her milk. Then it is not abuse. It is murder. The courts should order the maid to be tested for HIV and then if she is positive, order the baby to be tested after 3 months. If the baby is then tested positive, the maid has a very serious case to answer. This kind of case cannot be "withdrawn" by a mother. It can only be withdrawn by the victim- the baby when it grows up getting a series of sicknesses, being dependent on ARV pills, having expensive hospital treatments etc.

People like Tendai Biti have to realize that they will have to come out in the open sooner or later: and stop all this double talk of calling for free and fair elections one minute and the next minute telling the people to vote for the COPAC draft constitution because it will deliver free and fair elections. MDC leaders do not want to come out and admit that the COPAC draft will not end the country’s culture of violence and deliver free and fair elections – the Holy Grail – because they will be forced to answer some awkward questions. Why then did MDC waste three and half years writing this COPAC draft if it is rubbish? And, what has MDC been doing these last four year since the COPAC draft is rubbish and not even one of the GPA agreed democratic reforms has been implemented? By appealing to Mugabe to ensure the next elections are free of the usual violence Minister Biti is tacitly acknowledging that there is nothing in the COPAC draft to ensure there is no violence. In other words the new constitution cannot guarantee Zimbabweans their basic and fundamental right to a free vote; it will be left to the whim of a ruthless dictator whether or not they enjoy that right! But since Mugabe has no intention of losing the next elections that leaves the nation with a simple choice hand election victory to the dictator in a silver platter or he will use violence to snatch the victory. Either way the ordinary Zimbabwean will NOT have a free and democratic vote! If MDC leaders told the people the truth that this COPAC draft will not end the violence and safe guard their free vote; then the people will vote no in the upcoming referendum. A no vote will force the nation to draw up another constitution, one acceptable to the people, one that will guarantee their basic right to vote free of fear of political violence. People like Minister Biti will have a simple choice of coming clean and admit the COPAC draft is rubbish and thus give the nation a realistic chance of writing a democratic constitution or try to keep up the charade that the COPAC draft will deliver free elections and hope the dictator commit the kamikaze and allow free elections to take place!

Editor, As the saying goes "one swallow does not a summer make" and one headmaster out of 8500 headmasters losing examination papers is not an indication that Zimsec, or the education system for that matter, is in chaos. Likewise this incident reported in this piece has happened in one school - there is no evidence that this is a widespread practice across Zimbabwe. No one doubts that the education system is still in crisis but a serious newspaper must give credit where it is due - and the education sector is not "lurching from one crisis to another". In fact the objective truth is that the education sector has stabilised dramatically in the last 3 years and is gradually improving. It is not perfect, far from it, but your report is a gross misrepresentation of the truth and not becoming your newspaper. Senator David Coltart

The coach/manager can always pick a completely different team make as many changes to the squad any tym. News worthy stuff would be the changing of the technical team

During childhood there are times when day-dreaming is a routine phenomenon. This is very normal. Moments of day-dreaming start to become less and less as one grows and catches up with reality through his own experiences and the experiences of others. Even one's ambitions start to change as one catches up with reality. The other fact of life is that every action we take, we take it without the certainty that it will bear fruit, but we take action after assessing the probability of the action's success considering how others have fared. For example, there are some people who made it without school while many people who have made it did so because they were educated. This has demonstrated that without school, it is difficult to make it in life. These two BOYS need to solemnly consider this fact. Bill Gates left school for an opportunity which probably would have never come again his way if he had chosen to stay in school. Many people in the pre-World Cup days made costly preparations for the anticipated tourists who did not come. Most of them have since regretted their investment. But some have not. People should not day-dream. Not all boys who kick the ball will go to South Africa or Europe. Some will even not make it in the domestic league. The insurance against all that are your own five Ordinary level subjects. People need to think. Kwete kuenzanisa nguwo nedzaTarubva.

I refer to the headline "Obama defeats Romney". Romney and Obama paid 2 billion dollars for advertising in order to win the election. It was an election by the rich, paying the rich to make them famous and loved and in order to inspire loyalty. I would like to contrast these with Jesus Christ. He was a poor man who inspired people with his teaching, his nature, his miracles and his miraculous resurrection. Although he was hated by the religious leaders who had political power and also control of the media, and was willingly executed by the Roman imperialists, and although he never picked up a sword or spear, and although 11 out of 12 of his caring, peaceful followers were executed for their views, Jesus Christ is now followed by more than two billion people. In 20 years Romney and Obama will fade from history but Jesus Christ will still be worshiped and adored by billions.

The police are breaking the law of the country by holding them for more than 48 hours without officially charging them. They have no charge so they hold them whilst they try and trump up a charge. The judge is also a partisan zpf supporter and should be fired for what he is doing to these poor people. Did you notice the midfield battle between Mukamba and Chitiyo when Monos were beaten.? There are in the same class but Mukamba is better has he possess the artistry which Ronald has plus the ability to win ball in the middle of the park which Ronald needs to work on. So Mr. Reporter, don't try to campaign for the young man. To prove my word let ussee the midfield battle tomorrow. You will eat humble pie my brother. It is us who cause violence. If each Zimbabwean becomes responsible, follow God's ways, elections will be peace and done in a brotherly way. But no, we listen to our politicians some of whom are agents of devil and butcher each other. If each Zimbabwean would say I am a child of God, there would be order, but no you have politicians from all the parties talking of violence, and the children of devil follow them.

Grace Chirenge said the nation’s fears of bloody polls are slowly being confirmed. Ms Chirenge is right of course - the nation has been matching towards "bloody polls" for the last four years. MDC have done nothing, absolutely nothing, to stop the nation travelling down this path. A number of reforms were agreed and a new democratic constitution, agreed in the GPA in 2008, were supposed to lead the nation away from the orgy of violence of 2008. Sadly not even one of the reforms were ever implemented and the Copac draft constitution negotiated with Mugabe will do nothing to end the political violence. Instead of framing the reforms and pushing them through and standing firm on minimum requirements for a democratic constitution Tsvangirai failed the nation on both issues. He was too busy globe-trotting and chasing women and the price to be paid is yet another "bloody" elections! The nation can be saved from having another bloody elections even now at this eleventh hour by rejecting the Copac draft and force veryone back to the drawing board of the reforms and new constitution. This will only happen if people wake up to the reality that Tsvangirai is leading them down a dangerous path.

International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH) and the World Organisation against Torture call "for the assistance of the AU, SADC and UN to implement the Global Political Agreement fully and to ensure the presence of local and international observers for the elections next year." Instead of being helpful, they are mudding the water. The GPA called for security sector reforms, for example, but it was then left to the two MDC factions to work out the details what these reforms would be. For the last four years no one has come up with the details; Prime Minister Tsvangirai, the leader of the main MDC faction has been too busy globe-trotting and chasing women to do that. So what reforms exactly does FIDH expect SADC to help implement? If they want to help here, FIDH should be asking PM Tsvangirai to take his duties seriously for once instead of encouraging his reckless behaviour and this wild-goose chase. Unless MDC get their act together as a matter of urgency and draft the reforms and amend the weak Copac draft constitution they have already endorsed; Mugabe will have the draft approved and then there will be nothing to stop him holding elections in with the usual vote rigging and violence. MDC must first come up with the reforms and only then can SADC can help force Mugabe to implement these reforms. SADC cannot force Mugabe to implement reforms that are not there! FIDH mean well but then the road to hell is paved with good intentions!

If kunonga can't respect the court ruling, he should be arrested and locked up. He must learn that there is law here and he must not break that law.

This man and his cronies should be forcibly removed from church properties and locked up for defying the court ruling.

It's time up, Cde. Kunonga. You are living in a time warp. We, in ZANU PF want the majority Anglicans to forgive us and possibly vote for us next year (2013) Nov/Dec elections. Your paltry minority have acted like our green bombers, defiling church property and turning churches into brothels. Bye bye Cde. Kunonga.

Znpf is out of touch with reality. Everyone is worried about teaching Zimbabweans history. We want food education and jobs period. I like this one they are busy controlling using the rear view mirror instead of looking where we Re going . It explains why our our country is in most cases loosing direction

Zanu Pf is right...They believe that the issues that were raised by their supporters were not recorded in the draft and cannot simply accept it just because the MDCs are ecstatic about it. Ultimately, it has to be a negotiated document as the truth of the matter is that a logjam will mean that we have to resort to Lancaster which is a worse evill.

If they have all these bright ideas now, why haven't they done anything like it in the last 32 years. It's just vote buying and if they were to win, they wouldn't do anything that they are promising. They are a bunch of liars and we shouldn't be fooled by them this time. They will never change so let's get rid of them and hold them accountable for what they have done and are about to do again.

Do eggheads like this realise those who arrogate to themselves the power to decide where the people should vote have blood on their hands? Better you step into your coffin in one piece when the time comes

Here is an administration which was tasked in 2008 to implement a number of agreed democratic reforms and to write a new democratic constitution so that Zimbabwe can have free and fair elections whose result will be a true reflection of the democratic will of the people. Four and half years later, not even one of the reforms has been implemented and only the very naive believe any will be implement before the next elections. In four years and at a cost of nearly US$100 million they produced a Copac draft constitution so weak it will not guarantee anything much less the right to free and fair elections. After all that Matinenga has the audacity to tell Zimbabweans "We won’t fail!" What is he blubbering about; this is a failed and totally dysfunctional GNU that has achieved nothing ever since it was set up.

Save us from this mess! This guy is a real mess. Had the reburials been so important, that would have preceded the 50 kg payouts veterans got for nyaradzo. There has been persistent hunger in that area, he does not seem to recognize that, the living are not worth it. Looking at his doctoral coursework in the link below (whether it was a term paper or final thesis), it leaves a lot to be desired. And AIU courses are not accredited,. To much mess Munya! http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:RMSjymVFKMcJ:www.aiu.edu/applications/DocumentLibraryManager/upload/MUNYARADZI%2520KEREKE.doc+&cd=13&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=in&client=ubuntu

ZC surely has gone to the dogs. They are not only broke. They now want us to believe that they can appeal against a high court issue writ of execution on a labour case. The High Court has final say in labour issues and it is clear you have exhausted all channels. Broke legal and financially.

In the GPA the parties agreed a raft of reforms including security sector reforms; sadly not even one of these reforms have seen the light of day. If MDC had pushed through the security sector reforms then there would be no issue Soldiers, Police or CIO messing around in politics. MDC missed this chance and now the party is calling on SADC to help force security officers to stay out of politics. A near impossible task given that this MDC has already agreed on the new Copac draft constitution which does says nothing about Soldiers and Police Officers not taking a partisan bias in politics. Tsvangirai has already launched his campaign for a yes vote to the Copac rubbish and now the reality is finally dawning on him that the next elections will not be free and fair and all his promises to the contrary are nothing but lies! There is nothing SADC can do to stop Zanu PF deploying the Soldiers, CIO and the Police to spearhead its campaign of violence as happened in 2008. There only thing to do now for MDC is to come out clean and admit the Copac draft is rubbish and thus force a honest implementation of the agreed reforms!

Thats the way Job! Unfortunately our gallant PM has demanded and demanded and demanded, but no one hears a man who poses toothless threats. The problem lies in the fact that our PM and his Cabinet are enjoying the lifestyle awarded to politicians in Zimbabwe and dont really want to relinquish it. Lets make sure next time we vote that we do so for a man whose only mandate is to govern only in the best interests of the majority of us poor Zimbabweans, rather than in the interests of the thugs in big cars with flashy suits and uniforms, that terrorize, torment , rape steal and kill.
