HARARE - Urban grooves forerunner Leornard Mapfumo is set to release an album that is set to end his two year lull.

The Maidei hit-maker said the 10-track album Road to Israel is set to be explosive as it features international musicians. However, he could not reveal names of the foreign musicians.

“I featured renowned international musicians; the people are great, some of them are coming to Zimbabwe that is all I can say. The album is going to be bang,” said Mapfumo.

Mapfumo says he gave his upcoming album an ambiguous name Road to Israel saying Zimbabwean musicians still have a long way to go in the music industry to be internationally recognised.

“We are on a journey to find our position on the international scene, we are far from discovering ourselves,” said the Two Chete hit-maker.

The impressive performer said he is polishing up the album as he is waiting for the arrival of the other musicians into the country to perfect the album.

“I am waiting for the musicians to come through, one of them is coming from United States of America and the other one is coming from South Africa,” said Mapfumo.

The album produced by Lazzie T is also carrying the track Uchazondigona which features Roki and newly realised gospel melody that features Ian Mudiwa and Cindy entitled Mwanawamambo.

His last album released in 2010, entitled Journey carried sensations that included Two Chete and Kana Ndinewe tracks. The album became a national anthem within a short period of time after it was released.

The star has maintained his position in local showbiz with his latest release Ukandisiya.

The song was released two weeks ago and is currently doing well on local radio stations.

The Harare-born star has been one of the biggest urban grooves selling artistes since he entered the music scene with Seiko that feature the Chidzoka songster Roki a decade ago. - Kaleen Gombera
