HARARE - Elizabeth Macheka, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s wife, is expected to be the guest of honour at the Ikebana Japanese Flower Arrangement Show in Harare next week.

Amos Masango, the Japanese Embassy spokesman, said the October 29-30 event is more than just about flowers in a vase and it will feature experts from the Asian, and some African countries.

“It is more than simply putting flowers in a container. It is a disciplined art form in which the arrangement is a living thing where nature and humanity are brought together, a philosophy of developing
closeness with nature.”

Among those expected to lead the exhibition, include Misei Ishikawa, Sogetsu head lecturer Seika Kasuya, college assistant lecturer Kouji Kurata and Sogetsu Bunka Jigyo.

With experienced potter Sihan Ishikawa – who has 40 years experience in these exhibitions, including trips to India and Kenya – also expected at the fair, attendees will not only be treated to a blend of
foreign and African flowers, but how to use the vase and flowers.

Apart from the Ikebana exhibition, which is the Japanese art of flower arrangement, the embassy in conjunction with the Incorporated Foundation has arranged a lecture demonstration around the same time. - Entertainment Writer
