HARARE - Twenty female dance groups will clash at City Sports Bar tonight in a competition to mark International Women’s Day.

Harpers Mapimhidze of Dancers Association of Zimbabwe (DAZ) is delighted because Zimbabwe’s top female dancers have agreed to honour such a significant day in the fight for gender equality.

“Since we are in March, DAZ is glad to host “Clash of the Dance Queens” an event which is meant to celebrate the International Women’s Day.

“The event is meant to promote and empower female dancers in the country. It is our wish to see the dance industry continue to grow in a manner that creates more employment in Zimbabwe,” said Mapimhidze.

Mapimhidze, who is the manager of Beverly “Bev” Sibanda and the Sexy Angels, said the event is going to run from 6pm tonight to 6am tomorrow morning.

The country’s most celebrated dancers Bev and her former mentor Zoey Sifelani are set to headline the event.

“The other groups which have confirmed their participation are  Syndicate Girls, Girls of Peace, Universal Queens, Unique, Explosion, Malaika, Dangerous Scorpion, Cassamoto, Cassablanca, Blood Sisters, Haranga Queens, Four Angels, La Dolce, New Styles, Spice Angels and Charlizie Queens among others,” he said.

Mapimhidze is hoping that club owners and managers will attend to enable them to see potential groups to hire.

All the dance groups to take part in this event are going to receive an undisclosed flat fee from the sponsor of the event Biggie Chinoperekwei the proprietor of City Sports Bar. - Vasco Chaya
