Freeman’s new wheels
Tuesday, 15 January 2013 11:41
HARARE - Zimbabwe dancehall doctor Freeman has proudly taken delivery of his first ever car — a Mazda 6.

The Bindura-bred Freeman, whose real name is Emegy Sylvester Chizanga, purchased the car in August last year during his tour of the United Kingdom but only received it late last month.

Freeman is delighted to have bought the car despite the rampant piracy that has stifled the livelihood of musicians.

“Piracy is killing our music industry and without live shows it is very impossible to survive”, said  the Dzivarasekwa-based chanter.

“Money accruing from CD sales is close to nothing due to piracy. The fact that I was able to buy my first car under such difficult circumstances gives more confidence for the future. I am now more confident of my future in music than ever before.”

The Joina City singer reckons the car is a reward to his loyal and loving wife Barbara Chinhema.

“It was so hard to leave behind a woman and come back home-empty handed and tell her that I was at work. I am sure she now understands that when I am away I will be working. All the nights of loneliness she endured were not in vain”.

Freeman’s career has not been without low points. Last year, he was robbed twice in a day after he had just attended a show in Chitungwiza.

“You know some things happen to distract you from achieving your goals and ambitions but like I said before, I will keep soldiering on.

“Bad minds tried to pull me down but look I survived their wicked ways and am still on top”, he said.
Freeman was delighted by the international breakthrough he made last year.

In addition to “The Dangerzone UK Takeover Tour”, Zimbabwe’s “dancehall doctor” also toured neighbouring South Africa where he performed at several entertainment joints.

The 24-year-old Zimbabwe dancehall prodigy is proud to have shared the stage with celebrated Jamaican international dancehall artiste Mavado when he performed at the Harare International Conference Centre last year.

Freeman became a household name after the release of his popullar song Joina City which featured Cally C last year.

Last year, he launched his latest album, Last Man Standing, with plug tracks such as Kuramba Ndaramba Pressure which features Cally C and The Last Man Standing in which he collaborated with Princo Spice.

The other songs on his latest offering are: Handikundike, Kakandinyangira, Kuzvitutumadza, Structure, Risk Murudo, MaInformer, Takava Leader, Love of My Life, Vanondigaira, Blessings and a bonus track Ndomira Semukono which features Shinsoman. - Kaleen Gombera
