HARARE - Rising young singer Ammara Brown has another chance to impress her growing legion of fans on Saturday at the Book Café.

The songstress will be participating in an all-day arts programme to kick-start the commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.

Ammara, whose energetic performances have earned her a lot of followers, will perform on the main stage along with the equally talented Tina Watyoka and Eve Kawadza and Tsvete from Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton.

Apart from music the diverse arts programme will also include poetry, spoken word, visual arts, film, fashion, discussions and workshops.

Pamberi Trust, the organisers of the all-day event, have promised a fulfilling experience.

“While painters paint, singers will be singing, poets will be delivering searing, hot words, and ‘Get it Tight’, Donald Kanyuchi, and mbira soloist Rutendo Machiridza will perform.

“Hip-hop spoken word artists Biko ‘GODobori’ Mutsaurwa and ‘Upmost’, and poets ‘So Profound’, ‘Mutumwapavi’, ‘ERS’, and Batsirai Chigama, among others, will take to the mic between other activities.”

Popular fashion designer Sabina Mutsvati will perform works of progressive fashion against a background of music and poetry while actors and theatre practitioners will do a theatre performance produced and directed by Peter Churu, to highlight the effects of gender-based violence.

Two workshops will take place during the day  on HIV/Aids Awareness that will be facilitated by Cleo Ndlovu, and  on Gender Sensitivity in Social Media that will be led by  Masimba Biriwasha.

Saturday’s fiesta will be followed by two weeks of music, poetry, discussions, workshops and film screenings, ending on December 8.

The highlight will be special appearances by acclaimed hip-hop artist Akua Naru from the United States of America and the Zimbabwe-Mozambique-Norway-Sweden collaboration “Monoswezi” featuring Zimbabwe’s own mbira princess Hope Masike.
