HARARE - Blade Runner Oscar Pistorius was heard “non-stop” arguing with his model girlfriend on the night that he shot her dead, it was claimed yesterday.

Pistorius’s claims that he shot Reeva Steenkamp after mistaking her for a burglar has come under intense scrutiny during the 26-year-old’s bail hearing yesterday.

In a dramatic morning of evidence at Pretoria Magistrates’ Court prosecutors said that “non-stop shouting” was heard coming from the Paralympian’s home on the night of the shooting.

Pistorius — wearing a black suit and blue shirt — broke down again sobbing uncontrollably as he heard the claims against him.

But his defence was boosted when cops admitted a key witness who heard shouting at the property was 600 metres away from Pistorius’ house.

The revelation led to audible gasp in court and investigating officer Hilton Botha later backtracked saying the witness was only 300 metres from property.

Botha made a string of damaging claims in court seeking to stop Pistorius being freed on bail.

These included:

- Witnesses had claimed there were lights on at the property and “non-stop” arguing between 2am and 3am.
- The bullet angles suggested Pistorius had been firing directly at the toilet seat.
- Police found two boxes of testosterone and needles in Pistorius’s bedroom.
- The bullet trajectory meant Pristorius was wearing prosthetics — which he denies — when shots were discharged.
- The track star was recently involved in an accidental shooting at a restaurant and asked a friend to take the blame.
- Pistorius allegedly threatened to “f*** up” a man during a recent row over a girl at a racetrack.
- Pistorius was a flight risk as he had offshore accounts and a property in Italy.

The defence also accused    Botha of putting the “worst possible interpretation” on the evidence.

They continued that police had lost evidence and not properly examined phone records.

Earlier there were chaotic scenes at the court as one reporter fainted, an overflow room was set up to provide more space and courtroom screens had technical problems.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel told the court he will elaborate on why Reeva, 30, fled to the toilet before Pistorius shot through the door four times and killed her.

Prosecutor Gerry Nel said: “Why would a burglar lock himself inside a bathroom? He shot four times ... there’s no possible explanation to support his report that he thought it was a burglar.”

As Pistorius’s father Henke, brother Carl and sister Aimee looked on, Nel added: “The motive is, ‘I want to kill’. This deceased was in a little room. She could go nowhere. She locked that door for a purpose. We’ll get to that purpose.” — The Sun
